Today.....

.....my Blog pays homage... We all have things that we use to inspire us... And this is mine... NX, Northern Exposure...

Thinking about why Northern Exposure is obviously the best TV series ever made... (OK In my humble opinion anyway), why does it do it for me...?

The characters are simple, but appear to me as friends, the location remote and stunning (OK so it wasn't really shot in Alaska but Roslyn, Washington) and the situations seem so uncomplicated though seem to manifest into something far more complex... (There always seems to be a message for me, somewhere...)

But more importantly its this...

"You bluffed me! I don't like it when people bluff me. It makes me question my perception of reality."

It's the writing... Truly sublime... It's the fact we can draw on it for reference to your own life so frequently... It's the fact these people live lives not that disimlar to all our own, and there's strength to be gained from the situations they inoccently find themselves in and how they choose to deal with it...

So here you go, just a smidging of my fav's... I feel honoured to share these offerings with anyone not familiar with the series. And if you do know it, I hope u enjoy the memories as much as I do :-)

"The path to our destination is not always a straight one. We go down the wrong road, we get lost, we turn back. Maybe it doesn't matter which road we embark on. Maybe what matters is that we embark."

"I guess what I'm trying to say is, I don't think you can measure life in terms of years. I think longevity doesn't necessarily have anything to do with happiness. I mean happiness comes from facing challenges and going out on a limb and taking risks. If you're not willing to take a risk for something you really care about, you might as well be dead"

"One person can have a profound effect on another. And two people...well, two people can work miracles. They can change a whole town. They can change the world."

"Sometimes when you look back on a situation, you realize it wasn't all you thought it was. A beautiful girl walked into your life. You fell in love. Or did you? Maybe it was only a childish infatuation, or maybe just a brief moment of vanity."

And my all time fav. all favs...

"Most of you have been where I am tonight. The crash site of unrequited love. You ask yourself, How did I get here? What was it about? Was it her smile? Was it the way she crossed her legs, the turn of her ankle, the poignant vulnerability of her slender wrists? What are these elusive and ephemeral things that ignite passion in the human heart? That's an age-old question; it's perfect food for thought on a bright midsummer's night. Hey, you said it best, Will: "Love looks not with eyes but with the mind, And therefore is wing'd Cupid painted blind."

Thought I'd share that with you all. Some of you have churches, moi, I have Mr.Chris Stevens in the Morning... :o) (OK that really does sound sad.. ;-) )
