Fear Sucks!

Recent events that a good friend of mine is going through in her life have reminded me just how difficult and testing this voyage can be for us all at times.

Sometimes we all get caught in the 'comfort' trap, where usually only the fear of the unknown stops us from facing the true facts of our situation, we know we have to act, we know inside what the right thing to do is, but 'Fear' alone is the static that drowns out our true inner voice.

So I offer this post to her so she knows shes not alone, and hopefully, maybe just to provide a little validation for the enormous life changing decisions shes made.

Everyone is trying to find their own way through life, there are no right or wrong ways to turn, there is no pre-destined direction, all we have to guide us is what we believe and feel inside to be the right thing to do. To conquer our own fears is the beginning of living a true life, it's the beginning of wisdom.

So my good friend, I am extremely proud of you, it is by far the hardest of life's challenges to gaze at our fears squarely in the eyes, stand tall and stare them down... And I hope you are proud of yourself to, big...

The details of my life are quite inconsequential... very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds- pretty standard really. At the age of twelve I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum... it's breathtaking- I highly suggest you try it.

Love comes when manipulation stops. When you think more about the other person than about his or her reaction to you. When you dare to reveal yourself fully. When you dare to be vulnerable.
